The University of Macedonia (UOM) is a well-known university both inside and outside of Greece. Education and research covers a broad spectrum, from economic sciences, political studies and business administration to information systems and applied informatics. UOM has an outstanding range of facilities, services and infrastructure to support its vibrant research community. The Research Committee of the university is formed of a group of specialized administrative personnel whose contractual obligations include the supporting of research projects. The Smart Mobile Interactive Learning Environments (SMILE) Laboratory has as a mission the Development and Training in the area of Mobile Learning. Professor Anastasios A. Economides, the director of SMILE, leads the e-Learning research group that consists of 5 post-doctoral researchers, and several Ph.D. and M.Sc. students.
The Open University (OU) is the UK’s largest university, with 250,000 students per year studying its courses. This number comprises 22% of all part-time higher education students in the UK. The OU is leading the FutureLearn initiative aiming at delivering high quality MOOCs from a network of renowned UK universities. The OU offers a wide variety of Open Educational Resources (OERs) and opportunities to study these resources collaboratively online through projects such as OpenLearn. The OU is also one of the top global contributors of learning materials in iTunes U and a co-producer of popular BBC programmes.
Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) is a public university that targets high values concerning the design and development of research activities, both within the University and in cooperation with other research institutes in Cyprus and abroad. CUT has been ranked by the Times Higher Education among the top 400-500 universities in the world and among the 200-250 in Europe. In particular, according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, CUT is the youngest university in the list of top universities in Europe an achievement that highlights the emerging, dynamic and innovative nature of CUT. CUT aims at transferring knowledge and setting new grounds through fundamental and applied research in all academic fields of the University’s faculties.
